I was just wondering, what all ratios ie 2nd gear or 3rd for a 5 speed do the ford tranny's come in? Do they have one with around a 1.82? Any info would be great.

It really depends on what trans you have.
If its a borg warner T5 (close ratio) 2nd is 1.94, and 3rd is 1.34. The best way to tell is to put in the gear you want and turn the input shaft and count the revoultions of the output shaft.

That I do not know. I wouldn't run an automatic unless you were going to run it direct drive, and if that was the case, I would go with a c4. Also, with the manual, there are many more ratios in the 4 speed.

yrs ago, we ran a c4 and a direct drive in a 4 cyl. modified that i fabed myself and we had a highly modified 2300 ford. it did NOT work at all ------- because you have no low end torq with 2.3 and a real big duration cam and if you run a dump valva system on the c4 you will rob all the hp with the frt pump gears turning to pump the oil pressure needed to make the c4 live and operate. if you dyno the pump on a c4 to find out what hp it draws i think you will find out that is in the 30hp range if my memory is good lol that was 1991 so could be a little foggy there

First off, the bottem end. If your running under stock rules, and can't do alot of engine mods, I would run a stock short block with a good set of rod bolts, rings and bearings. The 2.3 bottom end a tough piece. I have had my built shortblocks break and thrown in a completely stock junker block and won races. Put your money in the head. As far a gear, it depends on how high you want to turn your motor. If your running a pretty much stock motor, 7.97 seem a little high to me, especially with smaller tires. My track is a short 1/4 and I run 7.59 final with 74" runout. I turn 7800-8000. If you tell me what rear end you have we can see what gear choices you have and your roll out it would help. If you running a mustang with a five speed, there aren't as many trans options a pinto type trans and you may have to change your rear gear.
By the way, I don't know alot about running the auto/direct drive combos on 2.3 but they're running them in minimodifies I saw and they seem to work pretty darn good.

I run an 8" rearend in a pinto,i probably need either a 3.73 with a 1.94 tranny or a 3.55 gear with a 2.14 tranny. Also the rear tires are 245-60-14 cooper cobras i don't know the roll out (the car isn't here yet)

Your exactly right. I run a 2.14 with a 3.55, and my teamate in a mustang runs a 3.73 with a 1.94. 3.73 would get you closer to where you need to be.

I don't know of anyone running the limited slip on dirt, sorry. There are tons of places to get gears, you'll just have to get out your catalogs and look or search the web. You might want to make a post on the parts for sale and indicate that you may be interested in a swap.
