Hey guys,
I am running a GM crate motor late model next year. My question is...Is there a big difference performance wise in steel and aluminum shocks. Will the steel shocks hurt performance? We are running on a limited budget and need to buy a lot of stuff. Also are the Doestch shocks any good.? I saw them at Day Motorsports for $140.00 for the coil spring, shock and coil over kit. Thanks in advance.

Rusty if it were my money i would run Bilsteins. I have run them for years,They won't fade and on the Dyno they don't loose there effectivness. 36mm run about 89.00 and the 46MM run 109.00. My personal favorite is the SN series that can be rebuilt to either Linear valving or degressive valves. Just a thought.

I have always run steel, More durable. If you are in N.C. there is a Bilstein main distrabution center in Mooresville,N.C.

93, not to differ with HCI (I enjoy reading his tech posts)but I've never had any problems with alum and there are a TON of them out there. Bilsteins make good shocks no doubt, if your interested I have a complete set of QA1's 4-sale: 2 9in stroke and 3 7in stroke. They are threaded body, rebuildable, revalveable, and have only 15 shows. Their complete including the rebuild/revalve kit. I paid over $1000, asking $700.
