Our team is looking to build a new engine. I was wondering what heads are the best horsepower for the money? 406CI.

I like the SB2.2 heads . I've used them on everything from a 357ci to a 464ci engine . The only draw back is the cost . If your on a budget , then it's hard to beat a good set of 18 deg. heads .

New heads are a little pricey . We use Weld Tech heads (which I would recommend to anyone), the last set we got in were around $5,000 , completely CNC ported . These were bare heads . Not a bad price for the amount of air they move !! Where the cost comes into play , is the valve train , valves , intake manifold , valley cover and valve covers . So it all adds up quick ! For our customers who are on a tighter budget , we use heads from 2 different Cup teams . Used , they will cost the customer between $4,000 - $5,500 , depending on the state of completion . Generally , for everything (complete heads , intake , valve covers , Rockers , valley cover ) a guy will spend about $5,500 . A big difference between new and used !! But for the dirt lm engines , where you have no cam rule , and no compression rule , and a broad RPM operating range , the Weld Tech heads produce more power . In other words , the Cup heads are a little more restricted in design , due to NASCAR rules . Basically , how much power do you want ,vs.. how much money do you want to spend ?? Hope this explains a few things !
