What is to hot for oil temp. Last week our oil temp pegged out at 280. Althought our water temp only reach 220. I shut the car down was this the right thing to do? I've heard that the oil temp doesn't matter, how ever I've also heard that a 30 to 40 degree split is all you want. We're running alcohol. Any info would be great.
Thanks Jim

Sounds like you're maybe a little lean---200 degrees water should be optimum on alky---we needed small oil cooler for our 430 to keep oil below 250. 280 is too hot---non-synthetic oil starts breaking down at 300. Hope this helps.

Oil temp. should be within 20 to 30 degrees of water temp. never more. Water temp. should be around 200 - 210 at the most. I hear they make an engine treatment called X-1R (wink wink) that all the Hav-A-Tampa guys use. It will bring that oil temp. down an honest 20 to 30 degrees! www.x1r.com

When we ran wet sump we used remote oil filter setup and put cooler after filter. Adapter bolts to stock filter location---has ports for lines to make a loop---out of adapter---thru filter and cooler---back to adapter.
