Has anyone who has bought a 2005 ford with the automatic trans had any problems?
My 2005 F-350 with 1100 miles is in the shop with a blown transmission. ( well the service writer says its not blown, just the plantary is whiped out)

I had a 2003 F-350 with a torqueshift automatic and never had a problem with the tranny and I've traded that for a 2005 and I have 3000 miles on this one with no problems.

Thanks....
I hope it is just one of those things, my 2001 f-250 had 100,000 miles when I traded it in

we had the same trouble with ours at 20,000. Next the oil cooler started leaking and blew oil out the over flow.
The older 7.3 was bullet proof, but new 6.0 seems to have a few bugs in it. i really like the new tranny hopefully they make it more dependable next year.

I hate to say this but when I was having problems with my 2003 one of the Ford reps I talked too said that my 2005 tranny was made in the same place as the Allison and they either put a Allison stamp or a Ford stamp on it. They also said later in 2005 they are going to up the horsepower and torque in the motor but they are still testing the tranny to see how much it will take. It scared me when they told me that as I've seen more Chevys with tranny problems than Fords.

you dont hafta be scared about the allison...its bulletproof. allison claims the light duty tranny can handle 800ft/lbs of torque. the gm's with trans trouble are the 4l60e and 4l80e...no comparison. i wonder why ford isn't advertising that they use an allison now? maybe its a allison ripoff?

Chevy has done a good job of advertizing that they have the Allison trans. WHY would Ford want to follow and copy Chevy when FORD is number 1. BIGG C

i looked into it a little...ford calls their 5 speed the "torqueshift" and its built by ford in their sharonville ohio transmission plant (not by allison) this may explain any trouble they have had with this tranny. usually you have a few bugs to work out when you design a new product (like gm's duramax and ford 6.0 powerstroke)

and bigg c...grow up a little..if you dont have anything informative to post then dont post at all.

Well..... got my truck back from the dealer,( with new transmission, Oil Cooler & Batteries) Now am concerned about the Torque convertor. It doesn't seem to lock up like my 2001. When I am driving highway speeds ( 70 something) and I let off the throttle easy the RPM drops down about 200 rpm, then when you get back on the pedal, it quick jumps back up to around 2000.
JD97brian, does yours do that too?
I am going to go and test drive a different new truck after christmas to find out.
Thanks
Rick

rrrrick it sounds like your tranny shifts different than mine and I think it would be a good idea to test drive a different one and see what you think. I didn't mean to start anything with what I posted earlier but I was just typing what the one Ford rep told me.

i work @ a for dealer sorry to say, but the trans problem that you are experencing is nothing new to any dealer. they have had some issues but they are working on them, yours might shift defferent b/c they reprogramed the pcm that will give you different shift points.

I have not changed out any shock that were under 100,000

I have changed out several ball joints with less than 10,000 miles on than ( no zert fittings) explorer ranger f150 F250 f350 f450 they are all junk from the factory

now I am NOT starting any thing this if fact right from the dealer as a mechanic. I like fords, they pay me alot of money to keep them on the road. I hope this is informative for you but have your front end checked out real good b4 it is out of warenty
