I have a 88 chevy 1 ton 4 door 4x4 and i want to put in a tach so my problem is this is the first computer controlled ignition I have owned so I dont know where to hook up the tach signal wire to?

If the truck has a seperate coil from the distributor the signal wire will still hook to the negative side of the coil. Check the connector to the coil with a test light or volt meter and see which side is hot with the key on/engine off. With the engine cranking and a test light hooked up to the connector the signal wire will "flash" as the distributor signals the coil to fire. Sorry I don't have a truck to check the wire colors.
