Does anyone have any secrets for freeing up rusted/corroded stuck throttle shafts on an old carb? Thanks.

I've used weak muriatic acid with some success. I've also ruined a few carb bases.

Rebuild it or have someone rebuild it. If that is not the plan. You don't want the throttle to stick wide open.

Penetrating oil to free it up. Try tappping in both directions and be patient. If you rush it, you will twist the shaft and you may suffer the dreaded stuck throttle. Twisting will feel like it is turning with mushy resistance. If you rock it back and forth it will turn then get a hard resistance in both directions until it will operate freely. BE PATIENT you'll Git r done

No time to mess with it yet. I'll post when I get it done.

Send the throttle plate to KPLugnut and let him rebuild it properly. He is very reasonable and as nice a guy as you want to meet. Everything he has done for me (Which was a baseplate) was perfect, and hes answered tons of my questions on here before. He will do all my carb work for now on.
