Can anybody tell me the difference between a stock cast crank for sbc and the $220 version of the Scat cast steel crank. I am wondering if they are actually any better or harder then a stock crank or more just a replacement for a stock crank. I can't afford the higher dollar crank as just a beginner class.

"cast steel" is not actually steel. it is missing carbon which is part of what steel is made of (it along with iron=steel) what it actually is made of is nodular iron which is better than oem cast iron. not near as good as steel though.

yes a scat 9000 series crank would be better than the oem part. if you need to replace your existing crank then that would be a good choice within your budget, but if there is nothing wrong with the crank you have, don't spend the money because it won't make you go any faster (unless you want to build a bigger cube engine). your oem crank, if prepared and balanced correctly will be fine for your application.
