I have a new set of valve covers with triangular vents at the bottom of the vent tubes. My question is, does the opening point down or up, or does it matter?

i would think the open end of the baffle should go on the exhaust side of the valve cover so any oil that gets in it has an open path downhill into the valve cover. the pinched off end toward the intake manifold...

The closed end is not completely closed. with the opening toward the intake the blow-by gasses have to turn 90* and any oil carried by the gasses can't make the turn so the oil should fall out of the flow of gasses.

this pic is from inside the valve cover right??

isnt one side of the valve cover clearanced a little around the very edge for the intake clearance that should be the top.

Put the larger end torwards the outside. That way, you can get oil into the engine when you change it. with it pointing up, it will take forever to get a quart of oil poured in.
