I was planning next season on switching from HEI to a MSD box and 85501 distributor. I came across the Procomp distributors and boxes that look a lot like the MSD stuff but are less expensive. Does anyone have any experience with them? Do they work as well as a MSD set up or am I better off sticking with the proven MSD components?

I'm running a Procomp HEI in my car. works pretty good, no problems last year anyways, but I've never ran a MSD, so I can't compare to that. I like it a lot though. My buddy also ran one in his car, Never had problems with either.

we used to be involved in selling procomp stuff alot, i even had a billet distributor of theirs in one of my own engines & didn't have a problem. BUT, we did start to see some pretty bad quality control issues with there distributors for a while.
the procomp stuff is good when its done right, just make sure you check everything first.
for the record, we run msd pro billet now with a 6al.
for most applications, a good hei system will be more than adequate.
