is .060" too much rod side clearance? I have never built an engine but I read .010" minimum and .020" maximum. I guess I was wondering if there is a thought behind such a large gap between the 2 rods. thanks in advance

Racer 2 is on the money. Anywhere from .018-.025 is what I shoot for.

depends on the set up, some motors run a HUGE amount of rod clearence.

Anything over 25 or so you need to go to piston guided stuff.

I agree with Juliaferrell, i was hinting to piston guided stuff. If your not piston guided then keep them tight.

you will also need rods with pressurized pin oiling since lots of side clearance wont produce the splash needed to lube the wrist pins.

I have been running .018 to .020 on mine. The clearance of .060 may reduce oil pressure.
