can you mix different brands of pistons in an engine? The reason I ask is I got a set with a block but one is broken.I was told they are JE but how can you id them?I know I could just buy a whole set but I'm trying to build a cheapy charlie.

If you balance it to the rest of them it should be fine. We have one new speed pro and seven manaleys (SP)Motor runs fine.

The motor doesn't know what brand of pistons he's got inside of him. As long as the balance is done properly and the clearances are right, run it.

Also make sure you keep the compression in that cylinder the same. Meaning you dont want one cylinder at 12:1 and the others at 13:1.

It depends on how old the JE's are. A few years ago they only ran .002"-.0025" piston to wall clearance. Now they run .004". In contrast many other brands run .005"-.007" piston to wall clearance. So I'd find a complete set of pistons, new or used, and make sure everything is right. If it's a JE piston, it will say JE on the bottom side of the piston. If in fact you do have a set of JE's, they might also be a shelf stock item and you can buy one at a time.
