Question about piston to cylinder wall clearance. Chevy block 2bl motor bored .045 over max hp most likely 460 compression max is 12-1 mahle gas ported flat top. they say like .005-.007 clearnace. I know of one that was put together with those numbers and it scuffed the sides of every piston . My guy say go with .003-.004 is that to tight? Also what brand of rings do you guys like to use?

Ok here is my take, go with what the piston maker tells you. Mahle is the one that spends millions on this stuff and are engineers not your local builder. Also check each piston seperatly for the block, meaning not all pistons are the same exact size. I say go with the .005-.007 They spend the money and do the math.

Just call mahle, I ran into the same question , they were easy to get ahold of.I think they told me about the same numbers .I had the pan off a few weeks back and the cylinders/pistons looked great as far as scuffing.I used their rings. It seems like they said to measure above the coating on the skirts for your clearence.Don't measure the piston on the coating .
