Has anyone ever broken an oil pump shaft?
sbc 355. all good parts. m55hv pump, moroso shaft. 55psi cold, 45psi hot at idle. mobil1 15w50. napa 1061r filter. engagement appears to be 3/8" into distributor. msd billet hei distributor, brass gear, flat tappet cam. I caught it quick and only scuffed the bearings. We have broken 2 shafts and cracked another this year in different motors. the only common part has been the distributor. Does anyone know how frustrating this is? any ideas?

Also look and see if the pump gears are getting into the cover plate.

the pump cover has no wear at all. I've never had the the pan off with the pump and distributor installed, but according to the wear marks on the tooth pieces, It has at least 1/8" more travel (freeplay)
MSD suggested that the distributor shaft may be bent, but it probably only has 25 nights. And it doesn't look bent. Any suggestions?

I've had one break when I was priming the motor, but it was one out of another motor that I took the pan and pump out of , now I just buy new drive every time I install them.
