Got the new motor built and ran for the first time Sat. Night. Super power up till about 4300 RPM then totally flat. Not missing like with an ignition problem, just no more pulling power. Found the intake bolts were loose and causing a BAD vacuum leak. Also, carb had accumulated a bunch of gunk while setting for the last couple of months waiting for a new home. Anyhow, I'm guessing that the weakest link in this new motor is the carb. Im going to replace it after the season ends in Oct. What would you suggest? Here's motor specs:

355 Flat top, Scat crank, Eagle rods (6 in. I think), Speed Pro pistons, Lunati cam, .489 Gross lift, 441 Heads bowl hogged, manley valves, bronze guides completely flowed out , GM Performance cast iron high rise intake, Center Dump exhaust manifolds, 3" Exhaust.

Car is a metric bomber. Rules allow quadrajets or Holley, no double pumper, must have Vac. secondary. I have heard from several people, including my engine builder, that a 2 barrel would just scream on this motor. Right now I have a stock Quadra-flop with 77 jets, stock everything else.

Oh yeah, wallet is getting really empty, so looking for budget minded suggestions. Im sure a Keith Dorton or a Demon would work great, but ....ya know.

Also, any othe suggestion on this motor (tuning, timing, ect.) would be greatly appreciated.

This is an easy answere... Just send your Q-Jet to KP Lugnut. He is here lurking about the forums, just PM him. He will do everything to your carb that it will need to perform, for a reasonable price. I'm sure you wont be dissapointed. No one else has been that has gone to him and he will get mine when the time is right.

I run in the bomber class also with an engine very close to yours(heads different) and I ordered a quadrajet out of jegs. Its a stage 2 jet and it runs great. No lag when the 4 barrels open up and I hit the curves at 6100 rpm. It'll cost ya about $370 after shipping but well worth its weight in gold.
