I have MSD HEI with Moroso race wires. Car quit running during feature. It just sort of died and sputtered to the infield.
Timing was off about 10 degrees retarded. Replaced MSD coil with MSD coil and dist. gear perfectly fine. Would not start. Thought the new coil was bad, so we switched to an old Accel HEI just to see if we could get the engine started. Got the engine started.
Put MSD distributor back in with new coil without tach hooked up and fired up, though ran poorly. Shut it off. Hooked up tach to restart and time and it wouldn't start.

We checked power to the coil from battery and have power except when the red wire gets close to the coil itself (if that makes any sense). We could not figure out why the little red hot in-line wire to the coil showed power except just an inch before it entered the coil. Had power through the yellow wire that leads out of the coil. No spark at plugs, but yet started once.

Is it a bad coil? Is it a bad module? Is it the tach causing issues? Is it a timing chain issue? Engine has run fine all season.

Module.. I had one quit while under caution being lined up. It just died on the front straight and wouldn't restart. Got it home, started once for about 5 seconds then died again. New module and all was right with the world.

It certainly was the module. Replaced it today and car fired up and revved up better than before. Right now, I'm not too happy with MSD products, but I guess all parts go bad eventually.
