I run a 6tn box with a autometer tach. The engine absolutely won't turn up at the same time the tach stays pegged on 10,000. Anybody run into this before? By the way we ran hot laps and while the engine wouldn't run right the tach would jump around from 6500 to 10,000 then I could feel the motor start to pull good the tach showed right. Any help profoundly welcome!!

We have had a couple of guys at our track have problems with tachs this year. One car wouldn't run at all, the other one would have a bad miss after about 3 or 4000 rpm. All they did was unplug their tach and everything was fine. I'm guessing something gets shorted out in the tach and it feeds back into the ignition and messes it up?

I had a bad wire on my pick up in the distributor. It caused the same problem your describing

After redoing every wire on it, I fired it up and still didn't sound right. Pulled the plugs and they were all but melted. I'm assuming the box is good but didn't have enough jet caused it. My tach jumping I THINK was feedback from the misfiring back to the - side of coil causing the tach to jump?
