Trying to figure out what to use for piston rings I am putting a motor together for a friend in a hobby type street stock. small block chev. they got a set of keith black hyperuteic pistons the spec. sheet that came with them sayes to run a bigger ring end gap do to the fact the top ring is set higher to the top and closer to the fire so what is the best thing to do in this situation can I run gappless rings or will thy bind and blow the tops of ??? What rings are the best for this??? Thanks

Sealed Power moly rings, top gapped around .030" depending on other variables, should work fine. I've been using them for years spinning around 6200-6500.

R8902 is the 1/16" PN and I think E251K is the 5/64" PN. Spending more money on other types of rings is a waste of money in this type of motor. The 5/64" rings are around $30 and the 1/16" set can be had for around $80.

I also run the Keith Black's, pay attention to the bigger ring gap.

Ran my first set a little to tight, motor lasted about 25 laps.
It blew the top's off of a couple of piston's.
Next set ran to spec's no problems.

I put a 355 together with KB piston part #231 and set the top gap at .028 and haven't had any problems yet.

would it probly be ok to file fit top ring to there spec. and run the gapless second ring??? what is normal spec. on second ring or is it the same as the top ring. I have never file fit my rings before just bought the general fit

Don't bother with the file fit ring sets, they're just extra money and you have to file the tops anyway.

2nd ring gap is standard spec. I run around .017"-.019" in mine.
