Is there any way to tell if you've ruined your radiator by getting your engine hot? Last night we pretty much had a melt down during our feature. My guess is, we blew a head gasket, as it blew all of the water out of the right side header. Temp gauge read about 260-270 as the driver coasted into the pits. Am I looking at a new radiator as well as an engine? Thanks.

if you are running a lower hose that does not have a spring inside of it and the radiator is swelled up when you whack the throttle you can see the lower hose start to **** closed since the radiator cannot flow enough to keep up with the water pumps demand.

edit: the **** = $uck

Also take the radiator out and look at the fins. When the radiatot swells up it can bend the fins over. You should be able to look thru the fins if not its junk.

Actually, it looks pretty good. It blew the top off of our overflow bottle, then blew the rest out of the header. I'm hoping that relieved enough pressure to save the radiator. I found big holes in #6 & #8 pistons. After 40 plus shows, I guess the old dog just got tired of huntin. LOL.
