I had a strange problem last night - the car ran fine for several laps, then all of a sudden it started lurching - I wasn't doing anything weird with the gas pedal, but you could see from the stands that it looked like I was hitting the gas hard and slamming the brakes.

I just had a new cam put in the car, and put a Carter carb on it while I rebuild my Rochester. (This is a bomber/pure stock car).

I have no idea what the problem is - any ideas?

That would be your ignition switching off and on by itself I believe. If you can simulate it that way then just look for a bad ignition switch or a loose/poor connection. Also the battery is not above suspicion with respect to loose terminals and/or a loose plate inside.

Also, it only happened while I was trying to race. Going slowly from the infield to the pits, and just sitting in the garage, it sounds fine (i.e. when there was no or little load on it).

I did find one ignition wire that was a little loose at the ignition switch. Hopefully that was the problem.
