We are allowed to run any OEM type ignition components only except coil, plug wires and plugs. No multi spark components. What does everyone have the best luck with? We are having problems with what we have and need to get something that will be dependable and can get parts for. Any suggestions or phone #'s to get one. We can not run MSD box either. Thanks

MSD 8365, HEI Billet distributor with high output module and coil. It does not multi-spark, and comes with a built in Rev-limiter on the module. Looks stock appearing if you take off the sticker and paint the housing black. No box needed, just drop it in like an stock HEI. A bit pricy at about $380.00, but hey it's only money right?

Do a search on "HEI" in the Engine Tech Talk. There has been a lot of debate about the different HEI components. I think that after reading some of the posts you'll find that you can get good performing HEI for not a lot of money.

Yes I went to the search not knowing it was even there to use and got some info so thanks. We are having popping and cutting out in the corners when it is pulling on a heavy track and about half way down it picks up and is good. Thinking it is electrical problem. Had this before and found that the eight sided plastic impeller or what ever you want to call it that is on the dist. shaft, was loose. It is plastic as I remember and how do you tighten it/ We took another dist. apart and took the shaft out of it with the impeller and it worked til now and we thought another $$$ breed of dist might be better. Any thoughts or questions?

Your symptoms sound more like dirt in the carb or fuel problem to me.

I use a Mallory locked HEI. Under $200 from Summit with cap, rotor and coil.

Call Automotive Specialties in Fargo ND. Rick Carlson is the owner he will custom build you any kind of distibutor that you would like. I just sent him my rules and he built the best one that I have ever had at what I thought was a really cheap price. His number is 701-492-2318. He also works on carbs.
