I am looking for experiences with the Fram HP series oil filter, and the K&N oil filters...Good, bad, indifferent? Any strong points to them, or any weaknesses? I know the Wal-Mart PH series Frams **** but what about the HP's.

I know Wix and others make a heckuva filter but I want know how you have gotten along with these two.

We have run the HP4 filters at times when we had to and didnt have any trouble. I know several people who run them and seem to get along fine. As much as I dislike FRAM if I cant get a wix or napa filter I would run the HP series. Absolutely stay away from the walmart type fram filter though.

The HP4 is as good as you're gonna get more or less. The only problem i've had in over 2 years is twice now I had the o-ring push out , but in both instances it was on new rebuilds, on a dry sump system, that pegged over a 100 psi when it did it. all I did is flip the o-ring over and tightened it down a bit more. and adding 6 to 8 more qts. again and it was all good..

here is a link to go and check out....this message board has some serious debating going on about oil filters....and i go with them on this.....the napa house brand or the wix filters. I use to run only fram on all my vehicles street or track....but now only the napa kind. http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=6;hardset=0;start_point=0;DaysPrune=0

i like the wix 51069. It fits and isn't as expensive as the 51069R.

I have used the K&N and noticed a increase in oil pressure. One night last year the starter ring on my flex plate broke off and ground out a 1/4 deep byt 1" wide hole in the filter and not a drop of oil came out and tat made a beliver out of me on the case being strong.
