Ok went to the track last night for the first time,in the heat race she got hot to the point she started to bawg down went to the infield rev it up to get circulation it was at 220 then went to pull in pits and it died temp jumped up to 250,set the timing to 30 deg and made a shroud, cut some hole, went back out for the feature first 2 laps were fine then a caution started to heat up got to 220 then I noticed the oil press was at zero got on it and it would not go up,pulled off let cool down a hour and started it back up and I had pressure again,NOW would the loss in pressure be from getting to hot and boiling the oil?

Firstly your timing is way off, assuming your on gas or race gas you should be timed at around 36 degree's.
And you are probably running a Fram Oil filter, junk it and get a Wix or Napa Racing made by Wix filter.

If it was a spun bearing would it still have 60psi at startup with it being cold and thats with a stock pump.

had the same prob motor was new in april and right from the start the pressure was goofy, was 60psi at idle cold, 40-45psi warm at speed and 15-20 at idle after the feature, i've been trying dif filters and dif kindsa oil but did not notice a difference, last night with 1 to go i was at 0psi under yellow, i fig i might as well keep it goin it felt fine, got up to about 40 at speed again but when i pulled on the trailer i was back at 0.no knocks or ticks though,i found the prob this morning, guage line was pinched off right at the back of the intake under the distributor, put a new line in it and it works a whole lot better.

Same oil pressure problem happening. 60-65 on startup and idle, but down to 5-10 after getting up to 220 water temp. Brand new Moroso pump with high pressure spring, using Wix filters, Mobil one 10W30. We're going to drop the pan and check the bearings if the SAE60 Valvoline doesn't help. Oil line and gauge has been replaced. Any suggestions? Comments?

the motor i been running i will get 65 lbs of oil pressure at first if it gets up to 220 and i stop and leave it in drive it will drop to 10 pounds. on my motor its most likely bearing clearance . but ive ran probally 20 feature races with this motor this year and so far its staying together

OK I tgot the pan off and checked the bearings, none of them have spun and they dont look like they got hot,but I took the oil pump off and opened that up and found that the gears were chewed up a little not a lot but enuff to cause friction, could this possibly be my heat problem it seems to heat up really fast.My cam and lifters went to **** on me 2 weeks ago so I think the pump sucked that **** up.

hows your cam bearings look?if you got a lifter bore wore it will loose oil pressure also.how much clearance do you have on your rods?,main bearings.sometimes ppl will weld the pickup screen on there oil pump and weaken the spring in the pump.

Ok got it back out on the track,in the heat it got hot again but it took a while oil pressure is real good, put a 3" fan spacer on to move fan closer to radiator went out for the feature and it seemed to run cool the first few laps,AND THEN coming out of turn 4 broke both of my rear axles at the same time, dam stock metric axles does anyone know who sells aftermarket hardened steel axles for a metric 28 spline rear end? we cant run 9" so I am stuck with the stock ****.I am just lucky I didnt roll the dam thing...

I had an engine once, that did the same thing you guys are talking about.60lbs of presure at idle,0 lbs at speed after about 2 laps.It was running just fine so I thought the gauge was bad.Shut it down after the race, let it sit for an hour or so,drove it up on the trailer,it had oil presure!Any how the problem on this BRAND NEW engine was the little plug under the rear main cap was missing!therefore all the oil got pumped straight to the top of the engine. It took a while to figure this out.An old builder told me to take peice of wire, stick it down the oil psi hole on the block, mark the wire. Then go to a block you is good and check it.If the won't go down as far in the good block, that little plug that always get's over looked could be missing. In order to get your block truely clean this plug should be removed to get it clean.just a thought to save sombody a months worth of time!
