i would try starting at 26.being a little loose until it warms up won't hurt anything.

Never set it LOOSE and let it warm up to tight! Can you set every one the same "loose" on all 16 rockers...NO. set them three thousands looser and rechek them after running up to temp. i.e. .026 hot =.029 cold
This will get you very close to the final adjustment.

Set your valves at .026 cold. Thermal expansion will increase the lash. After break in, Reset them to .026.

When we set our lifter we set them 2 thousands tighter then what it calls for like in your case i would set them at 28 cold they will be at 26 when it warms up plus you dont have to deal with a hot motor you will get them close enough He!! even 40,000 dollar sprint car guys run there valves cold ( yes granted they are rollers but still)

I agree, stone cold is the only way to get 16 consistent settings with a solid or roller cam.
Recheck after warm up and adjust your cold setting until you are right on a hot setting.
Just because the cam card gives a hot lash does not mean i have to adjust them when hot.

I read a artical a couple weeks ago on valve lash. It said set the lash .002 more than what is called for. When engine is warmed up, the expansion will take up .002. I am going to check valves cold and see if that is true.

Iowa dtg,

In that example using .026 on the card .002 tighter would be .024 not .028. LAsh is the measure of the slack in the valvetrain so tighter would mean less lash.

Typically set them .002 looser, so if your card calls for .026 set them to .028 cold and then check it hot to make sure and adjust from there. Its better to run them tighter than too loose. Too loose and you can tear up the cam or lifters. IF you wanted to be safe set them cold to the number on the card, check them hot and then go back and adjsut from there.
