Looking for some help on my Dodge PU. I have had it in the shop with no luck. At cruise speed 65-70 mph, it seems that it slips out of OD and the rpm goes up 200-300 rpm then back in gear. It first started when cruise control was on but now it is doing it all the time. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Race

is the "check engine" light on?

it sounds like you have sensor going out. i'm not sure about dodge but ford calls it the turbine speed shaft sensor and its located inside the transmission. they're a booger to replace. you have to remove and disassemble the transmission to replace it.

Thanks Outlaw, no the engine light is not on. The local Dodge dealer had it a few days and ran some test and replaced the main computer(?) and that did not help. And they said they had no more ideas. It's my only vehicle so I said "Thanks" and drove home. Just looking for ideas I can tackle myself. Race

I have seen many tps's fail causing what your talking about. If it has a trans temp sensor in the cooler line i have also seen those cause problems. The dealer should have been able to find these if they were bad.I would think the tcc is applied by a solenoid which could have issues.I quit the dealers in about 96 and they had been in the process of changing how the trannys were operated electronic from mechanical.Like I said the tps was the number 1 cause of what your complaint is. Do you know if its a 46 re trans.?????????????

Sounds like it's the TPS sensor. I had a similiar problem and it ended up being the speed sensor's on the tranny and rear. Replaced them both, tightend the reverse band and new fluid since you have to drop the pan and it ran like a champ. It was a '99 though. I know we don't advertise other pages on here, but dodgeram.org had a lot of helpful info on Ram trucks. (sorry jammin, in advance)

Good luck with your truck.

Ray
