I've been runnig msd with cast gear hv pump with no problems. What wt oil you run? was it a new cam and old gear.Or old cam.Put another one on and break in by there methods and see waht happens.Yes bronze is softer and lot more exspensive.

its the high volume oil pump i had this problem with my windsor too and and put on a bronze gear the bronze gear would last the full season , i also called the Ford tech line and they told me not to use a high volume pump unless the bearing clearances were excessive , the next engine i built had all bearing clearances at .002 and a standard volume melling pump and no problem , the high volume pump just loads the gear too much

my bearings where at .002 also. I am using 50w oil and they (MSD) told me not to run anything over 40w. Should I change oil pumps or just use lighter oil?

make sure the engine is up to operating temperature before you run it hard. also, the distance from where the distributor contacts the top of the block to the end of the drive gear should be 4" exactly. if it's not, shim it or move it.

we put the stock volume pump in and run mobile 1 15/50 oil it races at 65 lbs and idles after the feature at 50 , if you want to see how much drag the pump has put a 5/16 socket on a speedhandle and put it down onto the pump drive shaft and crank it counterclockwise , you will barely be able to turn it with a high volume , with a stock volume pump there is very little resistance , this is what sold me lol
