Ford guys out there, what are you all running for distributor and ignition system? I am currently running stock distributor with the Ford Motorsports MSD Ignition box that MSD made for them, but I believe it is starting to go out on me, so I am looking for good replacement, or does anyone know if these boxes can be repaired? thanks.

yep, those boxes are junk. i had 2 of them go out on me before i gave up. use a regular MSD box or if you're on a budget, use the stock blue grommet module. if you use the stock module, get rid of the special coil made for the MSD/duraspark module. it will cook a stock module quick...

Thanks for the info guys, I did run a regular MSD box up until this year, but new rules say no MSD. That is why I went back to the old Ford motorsports box. I do have a stock Ford blue grommet module too, but it still don't seem to run right with that either, I try to set the timing at about 32-33 full advance, but it just idles terrible until it is running about 3500 rpm's, or until I reset the timing at about 40 advance. It also runs warm, just sitting there as I am trying to tune it. About 240 degrees. Thanks again guys.

I agree the DUI is pricey to start off but, I would not consider switching to MSD.

if you're running stock production ford heads, you need 36-38 degrees of timing.

the cooling problem is another animal. they will stay cool at 38 degrees timing if the cooling system is up to snuff.

Thanks outlaw, I will reset the timing and try that first. The heads are stock, cooling system is pretty much all new. thanks again.

Why a blue grommet?

some duraspark modules have a different wiring layout. the blue grommet module is the most common and has the same wiring configuration as the MSD/duraspark hybrid module. "plug and play"...

Just got my new DUI distributor, and wondering if timing should be set at 36-38 degrees full advance with this also. I am running 9.5 to 1 351w , stock heads, 4412 carb, in a B mod. 1/2 race gas 1/2 pump gas. Still haveing the heating issues too.
