I've got a 7 qt champ oil pan and pick tube for a sbc. Looks like I will have 1 inch between the pick screen and the bottom of the pan. This seems to be way to much. What should the space be? Any suggestions on a different pick up tube. Can I heat this thing up and bend it to get it right?

You want 3/8" worth of clearance. I'd call the panmaker and ask them what pick up tube you are supposed to have. No, I wouldn't bend it.

Sounds like you've got a High pressure but not a high volume pump. I had the same problem, I had bought a High pressure only pump, not High volume and had way to much clearance when assembling the motor. I went ahead and bought a High Volume pump and stuck my High Pressure spring in it, and clearanced it out right at 3/8 of an inch. The Melling HP oil pump is about 3/4 of an inch too short for the claimer pans.

You calling Champ a claimer pan?

Sounds like you have a pump to pan combo problem. I haven't seen a 7qt claimer pan. Most are 6qt.

This is a Champ style driver side dip 7qt #15104(Speedway#) Catalog does say pick up tube for a HV pump. My pump is a stock M55 pump. So I assume I need a different pickup tube than. I dont need a HV pump. So changing the pickup tube would be the way to do it I guess.
