I was told it just needs a new ignition module..thing is i take it off and o'reilly's says it tests out ok,but a mechanic friend of mine says that they sometimes let a bad one test out ok on occasion. It's a 2.8 with the distributorless ignition and it will start to run and die, after about the 100th try it will run but shut it off and it won't start again,i'm leaning towards the crank sensor but the module may be the culprit..what do you think?

Crank sensor. Seen in 5 times on mine (88,90,91 and 92 2.8s and 3.1s).

The crank sensor plastic cracks and starts sucking up oil. It also will pickup any small metal shavings too.

And it's alot cheaper than a module. Usually, when the module goes bad, it'll start and run fine, then just die running down the road. 10 seconds later it'll fire up and run fine again.

Easy way to tell if it is crank sensor when it wont start see if you have spark and if the injectors are clicking. If both are not clicking or fireing then replace the crank sensor. If one of the two ARE firing then suspect the module.
One more note make sure the parts store tests the module several times in a row. This heats up the module and will tell if the problem is heat related.

ohm test all the injectors. they should be around 12 ohms. anything less than 10 or so is junk. if you have 2 or more bad it will pull down the whole set of injectors and cause no start problems.
