I built a 350 060 over flattops stock heads rods stock oil pump and when I first start er up the pressure is at 60 then slowly drops to about 10 when warmed up then when I rev it up it drops to zero it has a new fram filter and I found out that they collapse and cause this, what filter should I run thanks for any and all input.

Wix or Napa racing filter. 51061r

You should have more than 10 psi at idle on a fresh motor anyway. What were your bearing clearances when you put it together.

definatly sounds like bearing problems to me. even if the filter is messed up it will bypass the filter unless you modified you oild filter adapter.

be safe and tear it down and check your bearings.

what are those clearances for?end play or plistic gauge?

if rods only have .002 side to side you will end up grenading that engine. 5 to 8 side to side is pretty average. always have rods side clearance..we stress the **** out of these thangs...LOL

Check your pump. My truck did this comming home from the lake towing the boat, I had to stay under 10mph to keep pressure. I got home late and the next morning it was back to normal, as the motor heated the pressure dropped and if I tried to accelerate it would hit 0. The pump gear had came loose from the shaft. When it was cold it would pump but when it got hot the gear would come loose and it would loose pressure. When we pulled it apart we let it cool first and could not find the problem. After 3 hours my girlfried was looking at the pump and asked how the gear stayed on the shaft. After I explained she asked if heat expansion could be causing the problem. We took it and heated it up and the gear slid off of the shaft by itself. I took her out for dinner at the resturant of her choice for that one.

We had the same prob missed a race checked all the bearings replaced the oil pump and ended up just being a junk Fram Filter. I only run AC PF1218 now no more probs.

If using the Fram remember that the regular filter is for daily driving and not for high pressure or volume. If you get the racing version (I cannot find the part number right now) it is ok. We run the Wix/Napa with the anti backflow, or a K&N oil filter. We have also had to use the FRAM Truck filter and it seems to be ok.

My brother came off after hotlaps one night and said his oil pressure wasnt ramping up like it should. I asked him what color oil filter do you have on your motor? He asked me why the color mattered. I told him race engines are alergic to orange ones, go get a black one. He about ****ped when I swapped em out and the pressure came back.

Sometimes its all in how you tell the story.

I wont use a fram on my lawn mower. race or not. biggest pieces of poop made. Cut one open sometime and look at it compared to ANY other filter.

Wix or Napa for me. Did use the K & N once and it worked well too. Just didnt get along with the nut on the bottom to tighten it in and out.

I had this same problem this weekend. I used a Purolater Pure One filter. Thoght it was a good one.WRONG!! I got lucky and shut the motor down when I saw the gauge drop to 0 during a caution. As soon as I started it up you could watch the pressure drop. There seemed to be this orange rubber gasket at the top of the filter. It wouldn't even drain itself when I turned it upside down. I put a K&N oil filter on presurre jumped back up to 40 at idle and stayed there. Thank god I had one of those trouble lights or I might not have caught it.
