I driver a bomber - stock 350 motor, t350 auto trans. When I try to shift the car from park to 1st - the engine stalls - I have to have a pretty good RPM to get going. Also, on the track, when I am coming off the corners and hitting the gas pretty hard, the engnie starts to cough and sputter, but then sounds ok if I just ease on the gas instead.

Are these 2 problems related? Where do I start? Fuel or ignition? I pulled the spark plugs, and 2 of them have a rainbow color on the tips of them like they ran too hot - could this be the problem? I've checked ignition timing, it is set good.

I don't think those two are related.
Maybe you have your idle set too low,
that's why it stalls. What is your idle

The cough and sputter could be the secondaries opening too quiclky, and
causing a lean condition.

Sounds like you may have a vacuum leak somewhere.
