That is all I know to call it.Were the oil filter screws on is there always a gasket between it and the block?I have seen it both ways?? thanks

the gasket does not have to be there,as long as the filter is sealed to the block oil cannot leak.

Your talking about a gasket between the adapter and the block right? Not the gasket on the filter.

Most I have seen dont have any gasket between the adapter and block. The stock ones have a little lip on them that will fit up to the block and seal it.

Yes that is right not the filter but the oil filter base you might call it.I saw the lip and I thought that was what it was for.I have also seen them with a gasket but I think it was on the newer style block and it may have been for a remote filter from GM.? thanks for the help guys.

the old style blocks pre 67 i think that had the canister style filters use a gasket actually an o ring if you use the adaptor to go to the spin on filter. my 64 block has one
