that all depends on what you want this motor to do and when you want it to do it.What are your rules, other engine specs, gears and rpm range?

it is a jr motor sports 358 short block it has forgerd pistions the block is a lign board squared deck the cam is .510 . the rules for our class states that no porting and polishing you are alowed a 3 angled job everything else must be stock. it has 342 gears and he's hitting 6000 rpms going into the corners we have a choice between 041 and a set of vortech we our out of money so we need to know what will work better with this motor.

IMO the vortechs are leaps and bounds ahead of the 041s... You have 30+ years in tech. advances....

i'd go with the vortec's with a extermly good 3 angle valve job. since u lose most power in the valve seat as from what i have leard in school at the NASCAR Technical insitiute. I am on the nascar side of the school.

I think the vortec heads would work alot better. They have relatively small valves and runners so it will make better low/midrange torque, it should also out flow those old 041 heads.you'll have a pretty torqy unit if you dial it in right. You'll probably increase the compression a little but you better use cam 2 or an equal fuel because vortecs burn quicker.you should play with your ign timing a little to see what makes it happy.
