I've got a 351w that I recently bought from another racer. I ran a 351w last season with a 3 speed manual. The flywheel on the "new engine is too large for the bell housing on my tranny. The bolt pattern is the same and the guy that sold me the engine told me he got the flywheel off a 289. Should all be the same, right? Is there a smaller flywheel that fits the 351? could the bell housing and old flywheel be off a 6 cyl.? If I find a smaller flywheel, what do I need to do to make it work with the 351w? How can I solve this problem?

sounds like you have a 164 tooth flywheel and need a 157. the flywheel and bellhousing need to be matched. you really should have an explosion proof bellhousing. either flywheel will work with one of those.

I used a 157 tooth flywheel and machined the 164 tooth bellhousing to fit the starter to the flywheel. I will try to load pics later not sure how good they will be since it is on the car.
