OK - I've got a 400 that's been prepped with the deck holes plugged and drilled, it's still got the steam holes on the block. The heads are new iron eagle heads and they don't have the steam holes in them - do I need to drill them for the steam holes or is that really for just a street engine?? Am I going to run into any overheating problems or hot-spots without drilling the holes?

We've seen cracks develop around those steam holes so we have always plugged them and welded them up.
