does anyone know if i can use an early 302
crank the 28oz balance with a 2 piece rear main seal in a late model block with a one
piece rear seal.

Yes you can. the only difference in the cranks on the rear is the two piece crank has a lip that prevents excessive oil from getting on the seal. What you have to do is take the 28oz. crank and have the machine shop grind the lip off the rear so it will fit in the late model block with the one piece seal. The rear of the cranks where the seal rides is the same diameter on both the 28oz. cranks and the 50oz. cranks.

yep, that's what i've done.

why would you want to run one of those heavy cranks instead of the late model lighter ones? i've found them to be pretty durable unless you're making some serious power and then any cast crank would be suspect...

thanks for the info. the reason i want to
run one of these is i am currently running
a 351w and i dont want to buy new flywheel,
just trying to save a little money.

Stroke that 302 to 347 and you wont miss that 351.

boy i would like to but i dont know how i could do it, we have to run oem rods and cranks and no forged pistons. i did get a crank today and i see what yall are talking about.
