this is the first race engine i have built, and was wondering what the best thing to do with the distributer is. its a 355, 882 heads, hyperutectic pistons, 484/490 cam, 313 intake. Its going in a pure stock. I have a stock distributer with an Accel super stock coil. I have heard of some people locking the vacumme advance and the mech. advance. I have never messed with this before. Whats the best thing to do? Also, my timing tab only goes up to 8*, its the stock tab welded on the front cover. how do i go about finding 32* and up? sorry for the dumb questions, but thanks for the answers.

If you are going to lock it up use the kit from DUI. it is not real expensive but it is a very good product. YOu can get a timing light that you can dial the timing in and it will read ZERO degres when it is at the dialed in setting.

look at the thread called "distributor question" on page two of this section. ss9 leaves pretty good instructions. I bought the coil and module from day motorsports, it's cheap and you can peel the decals off, looks stock. As for your timing, put a tape on your balancer, or get one of those groovy timing lights where you can dial in the timing you want and shoot for zero. I'm a newb myself, so don't think I'm an expert of any kind... Good luck
