Just got through installing a new raditor in our pure stock...stock olds 350 rocket. As I was filling up the raditor with water I noticed water POURING out of the block. After closer inspection I see where the front freeze plug was missing.Strange because I just started up the car this past weekend and let it run alittle.(had't been started in past 2 or 3 months.I noticed something in the cross member and there it was THE FREEZE PLUG!!! Still whole no rust, bends or nothing looked brand new. This is strange to me....what would cause this to just POP out???? Should I just knock it back in or do yall think its faulty and need to get another one to replace.Luck for me its the one right in front of motor mount should be fairly easy to get to.

I'd get a new one, or take and put some RTV around it before you knock it in, and then after you knock it in fill in the edges with RTV,press the rtv in the cracks with your finger to smooth it out

I'd look at WHY the plug fell out.
You have to tap them in. That's called an interference fit. If it fell out by itself it may have been installed incorrectly. or the wrong size. or the block is cracked near that hole allowing it to lose tension againt the freeze plug.
Unless you dug the engine out the dirt at a wrecking yard, it's worth a thousand bucks or more, don't let inattention to a 75 cent piece ruin it.

Being from a cold climate and having first hand experience with this, no antifreeze + freezing temperatures = frost plugs push out.

mine also coughed the plugs out this winter, was on the motor stand and i forgot to pull the block plugs. (i know stupid) everything else was drained and off. pushed the front 2 plugs out. i filled the block with water and let it sit a couple hours, no drips, drained the oil and looked ok, do you all think i got lucky or is there other areas i should be looking at?
