We went to a solid cam and lifters this year and roller rockers. How often should we check the valves?

The more often the better, but I have always checked them after the first race on the motor and then every 7 or 8 races or so.

Every week wouldnt hurt. That way you may catch something before a major disassembly happens. If you have a valve that consistently loosens up you may have a cam going bad, etc....

That being said if you have a solid top end with stud girdles you can prob get by checking it less often. I know I will check mine maybe the first few weeks of the year then maybe once a month after that. With our top end setup I cant remember having to change the settings once last year after the initial week or 2, so I prob tend to put it off more than I should.

Be MORE CONCERNED with a valve lash that is tightening up, this is a good indicator that you are getting ready to lose a valve or have valve seat problem with the head. I'ts always a good idea to pull the head and check out what's going on when this happens. I've seen too many people build brand new short blocks and then buy some used "killer heads" from someone and the fatigue life of the valves has already been exceeded. I replace valves in our motors after a full season, whether they measure out good or not. It's cheap insurance against grenading all your work and $$$

What Ryan said. Even though I get lazy and more often than not do it every 3 weeks or so. But in reality when it comes to racing, every week is right on the money.

just for peice of mind and insurance i did them before race night every race night. not just to check lash but to ensure studs were tight. no bent push rods. and springs looked good.30 miniutes worth of time can save thousands of dollars..

With stud girdles I do it every 3weeks. They'd usually be off no more than 2-3 thousandths. Without stud girdles, I'd do it every week.
