I purchased a blow proof bellhousing from a friend and discovered tonight that the hole in the bellhouse is smaller than the bearing retainer on my 3 speed saginaw. This is just another snag in what seems like a never ending saga of "his won't work and that won't fit!"Does anyone know how big that hole should be cut? How precise does it have to be? Machined or torched?

Eljo,I have ran into the same problem before.the way we fixed it was to take the front bearing retainer off the trans, and we adapted it to a brake lathe, although you will get the same results on a regular lathe, just turn the appropriate amount off of the retainer, done it for yrs and never had a failure.I wouldent remove any material from the bellhousing itself, that is a precise measurment for alighnment.hope it helps.

You don't need to turn anything down, just get a small size bearing retainer off a different tranny...... if you have a problem finding one let me know... I think I got a few left over .....

Same problem last year. McLeod bellhousing 3 spd sag and we had to rob a smaller housing from a mod buddy. Easy once we knew what was wrong.

if it ain't fun, then don't run

Eljojo, did the friend you bought it from ever use it ? if so strange he didnt mention this to you, unless he got lucky and had the right trans. right off the bat..

I got it from TnT Racecars owner, Tony Ford. It was laying in the floor and I asked him to sell it and he said $75 and we made a deal. Tony's a good guy and wouldn't burn anyone! I got an aluminum stock one from a friend and took them both to the machine shop. The machinist measured the larger factory hole and set my piece in the mill and in about 10 minutes I was the proud owner of a steel belhousing with the big hole in it. Thanks for all yall's help!! I thought at first that I was just going nutz!!!

I hope you realize that like way2fast72 put in his email if it is a good blowproof bellhousing it was probably SFI approved and if it ever had to be inspected I dont think it will pass and like he said it was an issue of alignment.Another thing if you ever upgrade you will never be able to use for anything but that.
