Anyone know what vehicle came with 373 gears for a Chevy 10 bolt? The rear end I have now is stock 1981 Pontiac Grand Prix, don't even know what gears are in it.

Assuming you have the stock 7.5 inch in your grand prix, try looking at mid eighties Z/28's for gears, also S-10 pickups.

Isnt the carrier different with a very high ratio than an S10 carrier with 3.73s thus causing the ring gear to be different? Spacer???

3.73 gears were comon in S10 4WDs and yes the carrier is diffrent. If I remember correctly everything above 2.41 is the same. The 3.73 ring & pinion and carrier from a S10 will bolt right in to your metric housing, the axles will not as they are longer.

Thanks for the help guys. I know nothing about rearends but what I get from this is if I find a 4 cyl s-10 make sure they are 3.73 and take everything in the center section?

Maybe I'm mistaken, but isn't the cutoff for different carriers at 3.08 and lower, called "2-series" and 3.23 and higher are "3-series" carriers?

I know you can get gears in a 2 series or a 3 series but I can never remember which is which...

The above info is correct, and I might add that some suppliers (me included) sell new gears that are 3.73 with a special "thick" ring gear that will bolt right to the series 2 carrier, thereby allowing you to run the higher ratio ring/pinion on the easier to find carrier (or the one ya already have).

It is a 7.5 crown gear which I thnk means that I need the spacer. The stock gears are a 2.73

Our 3.73's with the thick ring gear are $175 plus shipping.
