Can anyone tell me what internal parts of a powerglide make it work in reverse ? It has become progressily worse over last season to the point where reverse will not work any longer. The forward gears work ok.

There are seperate clutches for reverse that could have worn out. The ring around the reverse piston could have worn out letting fluid by, or, one of the passages to the the reverse piston could be stopped up. A good tranny guy could fix it quickly and easily, or you can buy a book and do it yourself. We did that years ago, and now we build our own glides.
