Hit the swap meets or do some online trading for name brand parts, Racers Auction, and eBay have some gems for cheap on occasion. Some people use new stock balancers with no problems, alot only use aftermarket. I ran a lightened CAT flywheel for a year with no problems and a swapmeet Fluidampr. The flywheel was quite a bit cheaper than a Hays, or 10,000 RPM one. You could also take your flywheel to a machine shop to have it resurfaced and lightened.

Yes it does work. I really suggest you get your assembly balcanced tho. If you do take your flywheel WITHOUT that piece. And they will balance it all together. You might end up with an internal balance but you wont need that plate. A guy i know ran one of those worked perfect on a 400 til it broke and started vibrating. They checked bearings looked ok. Til the next race when the oil pan became a weak link and everything went through it. I think they saved 4 rods maybe.
