I race a Hobby stock, 9 to 1 engine, pump gas, 500 cfm rochester carb. should I run a stock pump, or a aftermarket one? Also do I need a Fuel Pressure gauge? Thanks

when we ran hobby we just ran one from the local napa store, used it about 5 seasons, when i sole the car as a roller i threw it in on the deal and to my knowlege the guy still runs it, as far as the pressure gauge, thats probably hit or mis, we never did in hobby, however lots of people do, listen to what your wallet tells you

I run just a stock pump on a 355 with a 4412, and I dont use a guage dont need it. I havn't had any problems with the stock pump, esp. with only a 2 brl carb.

electric fuel pump from an early 80s gm X-body carberated not injected i believe that is what mine is from, no regulator. had it for, goin on 8 seasons now 3 in a 4cyl and this will be my 5th with a v8. never had any probs allows me to move my motor back as far as i want without notching frame less drag on the cam easier starts. not all rules allow but mine don't mention and i did not inquire and nobody has said otherwise so i guess that makes it legal.

you will be busey enough in the car. do you really think that it is nessary? It is just one more thing to look at while you are trying to race

You dont need it until you start having problems, the gauge takes away the guess work when you start trouble shooting. JMO

Don't do what I did the first year I started racing - I thought if it costs more it would be better WRONG!!!!! I spent $70 for a high volume pump and ended up having alot of problems, fuel blew right past the seat! I went to a stock fuel pump and have not had any problems since! A wise man once told me " Don't ever underestimate those ol' GM engineers!" Something to think about!

I had two different STOCK fuel pumps right out of the box from O'Reillys, that were pumping around 12-15 PSI, right past the needle and seat. Two friends had the same problem. Put a regulator and guage on, no more problems. Also, last season, my car started cutting out a little one night in the heat race, watched the guage, it was dropping quite a bit, knew it was a fuel problem, changed the filter, made the car happy again.

if your regulating them down to stock then your wasting money and horsepower mine is higher than stock but you know my deal LOL if not call me and i will explain
also its not pressure you trying to gain it is volume DUUUHHHH!!!!!!

We finally settled on a hi volume, stock pressure pump, but we still have a regulator on it so that we know what we have at the carb. With the stock volume, stock pressure, and a regulator, we were fine at an idle, or in the garage, until we put it under load, then it would drop a couple of pounds until we added volume.
