406 claimer came with 6 3/4" balancer and 168 tooth flex plate with weight welded just inside outer ring. The flex plate is too large in O.D. to fit bell housing. Can I use a 153? Do I need to add a balance plate or what?

Thanks, we use a mini-starter. If the engine is internally balanced, why do we need the balance plate?

if the engine is internally balanced you do not need weights on the flexplate or balancer!!

If your motor came with a flexplate with a weight on it chances are your motor is not internally balanced, most claimer 406 ,183's are not so you may want to double check.
