Curious to know if any one else is runnin a mod with a 79-up Ford Crown Vic Stub! We are playin with some spindle combonations, and are curious if we are on the right track!

i think cobra chassis are running some fords from what i have heard

Tom, we are running that frame and are using pinto spindles and have had the best luck with them they are what i would recommend.

the M@M cars around this area are all using the spindle that came on that frame, they are very fast too but i think they are a modified version of stock tho, as the steering arm is shortened

Okay 5, what inner tie rod ends are you using! I have been at the parts store all day and I cant find nothing with the same taper as the LTD! I am trying to get ready for a Modified special here Fri night and no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Just bought a M&M modified. Ours runs an 80 - 83 crown vic stub, lower A-arm, and spindle.

Our car uses a stock Ford outer tie-rod end on the inside and a hiem with a thru bolt on the spindle end. The steering arm on the spindle has been shorten. The tie-rod has metric LH threads on the 80 - 83 Ford tie-rod end and I think 5/8" RH threads on the hiem end.

Not a 100% sure on the year range yet but at least 80 - 83 Ford Crown Vic and Mercury Marquis stubs are the same.

Thanks for the info Big Blue but I have messed with these cars for a while and we found that the tie rodends are metric thread. I will try again to see if the swedged tubes I have might go on! I had the pinto spindles all fitted to the car! Any help is appreiciated!!

I just reread my post. What I meant to say was the swedged tie rod tube has metric LH threads on one end and SAE RH threads on the other end. M&M has the swedged tie rod tubes specially made.

That way they can run the Ford metric thread outer tie rod end and a 5/8" RH thread hiem with a thru bolt on the spidle end.

From what I've been told the crown vic spindles are forged and not cast. So I guess the spindle steering arm can be cut-off, shortened, and then welded back on to the spindle. Really seems to speed up the steering. About 3/4 of turn lock to lock.

Tom, you might try and call Les Duellman...He uses ford frames in his Dirt Dueler chassis..not sure which ones though..his number is 507-458-5788 ..he was a ford engineer before he came back home to run family business and builds cars on the side

tom ,we are using stock ford crown vic tie rods, they hold up well, better than swedged tube\hiem combo and cheaper too.
