Please help!!

None of the pulleys on my engine will line up. I am installing a new engine in a mod and nothingg lines up. The water pump sticks out further than anything else. As first I thought that I must have a long style water pump but I checked the part number and even bought a new water pump to compare to. I bought a 71 corvette pump for comparison and the pulley line up was still the same.

The water pump and crank pulley came from speedway. I bought them new as a matched set. I have used these pulleys before on another motor and I know they are ok. The power steering mount is also from speedway and is a head mount style and it is flush on the head.

Does chevy make two different short pumps ? If so what is the shortest one, make and model ? Has anyone had this problem before ?

I am going to make spacers to go behind the power steering pump and crank pulley as a last resort. Please help any advice would be appreciated. Surely someone else has ran into this problem.
Thanks so much !!

Brownstone I had a problem with a pump one time. I had to put a socket over the shaft and push the plate where the pulley mounts back a little. Also you may make sure your balancer is up all the way.

How far off are they? Sounds to me like the balancer is on the crank too far. (don't ask me how!!) Keep us posted.

CRank Pulley is all the way up. The water pump pulley sticks out 3/4 of an inch more than the crank or power steering pulley.
Still working at it and drawing out material to cut out spacers to go behind the crank pulley and the pwer steering bracket.

I think the Corvette pumps are a little longer than a short pump, but shorter than a long pump. My Speedway catalog shows the short pump to be 5 7/8" from block mount to pulley side of plate, and 7 1/4" for the long.
What's the one you have measure?
