GOT ALL MY STUFF TOGETHER AND A GUY TOLD ME IT WILL BLOW HEADGASKETS OUT FOR SURE . I'M NOT ZERO DECKED AND HAVE ABOUT .051 HEAD GASKET THICKNESS . ANYONE RUN THIS KIND OF COMPRESSION WITHOUT RINGING THE DECK AND NO TROUBLE ? ALUM. HEADS WITH STEEL BLOCK , THE PISTONS ARE SRP AND SAID 14-1 WITH 64cc BUT NOT SURE IF ZERO DECK AND WHAT GASKET THICKNESS IS THAT THEY'RE GOING BY .

I'm running a 14 to 1 steel motor. its not ringed but we do run the head gaskets with the steel ring in them. I'm not sure with the alum. heads how it will work out. The first motor we built was a 14 to 1 and we didn't use the good head gaskets. The motor made it 3 laps then started melting down. It pumped compression past the gaskets and pushed all the water out of the motor. This was not a good thing!! gl ltr.

WHAT ARE THE GOOD GASKETS THAT YOU'RE REFERRING TO ? MINE ARE FEL PRO , CAN'T REMEMBER THE NUMBER . HOW LONG HAVE YOU RUN YOUR MOTOR NOW WITH GOOD LUCK ? I DON'T THINK I'M A TRUE 14-1 WITH THE GASKETS AND NOT ZERO DECKED BUT NOT SURE HOW MUCH THAT CHANGES THINGS .

350 chevy is a #1003
400 Chevy is a #1004
Those are the felpro "GOOD" ones from what I know

I have run 13.25 to one without anything special, Felpro gasket. I do not run that high any more. Very high compressions make the top of the cylinder walls ware bad and quick and do not seem to give enough power to justify the short time between rebuilds. On any racing engine however I run it one night and then retorque the head bolts,intake bolts and reset the valves. I think that retorquing is very necessary, often the short bolts by the exhaust turn 60 degress, the others are less. Like most of the rest I also run a lube in the methanol to help reduce the wear.

You will have no problem's at 14:1 . We build our gas and alky engines with a minimum of 15.5:1 compression , most of our alky engines are at 16:1 with no problems . Be sure to retorque your heads before you race !! You will want to run your engine up to operating temp , and then let it cool back down to room temp . Crack your head bolt's , or nut's , loose about a 1/2 flat , and then come back up on your torque . Most people who have head gasket problems with aluminum head engines neglect to retorque the heads . Even though the head gasket say's "Perma-Torque" , this does not mean that they do not need to be retorqued !

THANKS GUYS , I WAS SCARED TO DEATH TIL NOW ! HENDRENS , WHAT IS HALF FLAT AND HOW OFTEN ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT RETORQUING THE HEADS ? DO YOU MEAN A HALF TURN ? THANKS

George is right , about 30 degree's . You should only need to re-torque your heads once . Good luck with your new engine !
