I have always allowed approximately 1/8" between the ends of my axle in the drive flange and the end cover. The setup in my new car has at least 1/2" on both sides. Does anyone have any comments on this subject?

I HAVE USED A BOLT AT THE END OF THE AXLE AND ADJUST THE BOLT WERE THE AXLE IS FLUSH WITH THE FLAGE

Are you using the same spool setup(mini/full) in the gear set- if you used a mini spool before and then switched to a full spool that would account for some of the extra "space"...either way you need to use the bolt trick or you'll chew you're axle to housing seals up...

I am using the bolt trick with lock nuts, what I need to know is if I should space the bolts out a little further to put the ends of my axles just about flush with the end of the drive flange.

Space it so you have 1/8" total end play. Push both axels from one side against cap on other side, you should measure 1/8" (or slightly more)from end of axel to outside edge of drive flange.
