last night I made the maiden voyage out of the garage with my new bert(first time I've ever used something other than a powerglide)..It went forward in low and high and also into reverse...the question I have is..is it normal to get a "little" grind out of it when you're in nuetral and shifting to low or reverse...The clutch was released..each time I shifted I gave the levers a firm and quick movement but felt and heard some grinding, just wondering if it is normal or not..low to direct worked good..its just the nuetral to low or reverse..thanks

We dont run a bert, but we run a falcon. Basicly the same type of tranny, and ours does grind a little when you put it in low, or reverse. After you run it for a while the clutches will loosen up and it wont grind as bad. But with straight cut gears you will almost always grind them.

I run a Bert, When the idle is a little high it will grind a little bit. Its been doing it for 3 years now without causing a problem. Change the tranny oil every 2 weeks. Mine has a bit of color but the clutches are still orginal.
